If your not sure where to start organizing a meet up, have a read of the information below as I’ve put together some guidance about how to organise a group meet up.
If you'd prefer to put the idea for an event or meet up to me to organise, please drop it in an email to: growsomethinggood@outlook.com
PREPARATION
When organizing a meet up, whether its for a walk, coffee or activity, preparation is important for all group sizes.
1. First gain interest. Put a post in the Facebook group asking members if they’d like to join you for a meet up.
2. Research the location you are wanting to attend before going.
If this is a coffee shop - read the reviews
If this is a walk, use apps like OSMaps and AllTrails for a route and check the difficulty is suitable to you and the members that inquired.
If this is an activity, check the cost and the reviews.
CREATE THE EVENT
Once you've got all the details, please put all the details in a message or email to myself and I will create an event on the Facebook group page your behalf. This is because all events not organised by myself need to be reviewed and approved.
Remember to add:
- Location (If you are meeting somewhere more remote please use what three words to pin a specific spot)
- Date and Time
- Details of the plan
EXAMPLE
Here is an example template you can copy and paste to use:
ON THE LEAD UP TO MEET UP DAY

- Make sure to let people attending know what equipment or clothing they need to wear/bring e.g. walking boots if going on a walk, raincoat etc
- Make sure to keep a list of attendees.
- Check the weather
- Stay in contact with people attending via the event chat channel in case they need to contact you to cancel or inform you of a delay.
- Have a back up and safety plan in place for any potential risks such mini first aid kit.
- Ensure you have sent everyone attending the full plan and answered any questions before the day of the meet up.
